As much as I would like to get into a business school next year, I really dislike the whole writing essays part. I wish the schools would just interview us to find out all the info they need to judge our application. Unfortunately, that’s never gonna happen especially with the increasing number of applicants. I soo don’t understand how there is an increase in the applicant pool when the economy is not doing so great. Shouldn’t people save money, instead of spending it all on an MBA. One could say the same about me but my situation is slightly different or atleast I’d like to think that way. I have always wanted to get into business and coming from a business family, this is no surprise. Just the thought of having to sit in front of a wired electronic device and coding away to glory for the rest of my life scares me. That is definitely not me. Don’t get me wrong though; I am glad I got a degree in software engineering because the pay is great and I work for such a cool company and have such great benefits/perks. But I see myself doing more than being a code monkey.
Anyways, getting back to the MBA applications. So I started my apps a few weeks ago with my initial research on what schools fit my goals and where do I wanna go. The whole delima of where to apply and when to apply came to an end around 2 weeks ago when I finally listed down the pros and cons of all the schools I was looking at. One of the biggest factors to consider was where do I have a chance of getting in. I mean ideally we would all like to get into the top schools, which is Kellogg for me, but realistically with my work experience at a low 4 yrs, even I know thats a long shot. But I am trying none-the-less. The main criteria for choosing the schools I am applying to were the curriculum, alumni, reputation and ranking, and recruiters. It is tough to narrow down from the gigantic list of schools that offer an MBA degree but atlast I have 8 schools that I am applying to in Round1. That is a huuuuuugggeee number of applications but I am determined to get into one of these programs. Worst come, I have Round 2 to apply to lower ranked universities. I got the backup plan worked out too.
Wish me goodluck !!!
